Last night’s Members’ Evening was a fascinating look at what our photographers were up to on the 1st of August, with the theme being simply: Photos Taken on Yorkshire Day.
The goal was to capture whatever scene members found themselves in, proving that photographic opportunities wait everywhere—from the heart of the city to the distant coast.
Where Were We? The Diverse Submissions
The evening showcased a tremendous range of locations and styles, truly highlighting the members’ individual interests:
- City Architecture: Jeremy brought in photos from both Bradford City and Leeds. His shots highlighted the wealth of interesting old buildings in Bradford and the vibrant public sculptures he snapped in Leeds.
- Urban Heritage: Pat captured the dramatic industrial scale and architecture of Dean Clough, Halifax.
- Broad Vistas: Gary shared sweeping scapes taken looking out from his own house over Clayton, Thornton, and the surrounding areas.
- Macro World: Graeme showed us the hidden world in his own garden with his newly acquired macro lens, capturing stunning close-ups of flowers, bugs, and plants.
- Community Celebration: Tony shared a personal series showing how he and his wife Judy celebrated the day, with photos from their local pub and an evening at Yorkshire Live.
- The Norfolk Coast: Peter demonstrated the broad nature of the theme by taking us out of the county entirely. His holiday snaps included dramatic pictures of lifeboats at Caister, scenes from the Norfolk Broads, and the distinct Cromer lighthouse.
The Value of Perspective
The review session was lively and constructive, sparking discussion on how different perspectives—from the micro scale of macro photography to the wide sweep of a distant coastline—can all be captured effectively on the same calendar day.
Thank you to everyone who submitted their work for an evening that reminded us that the best subject is simply the one right in front of your lens.
