Last night, the club room was transformed into a bustling portrait studio for a highly anticipated practical session focusing on portraiture. We were delighted to welcome our model, Anita, who was brilliant and provided endless posing inspiration for our members.
With the lights, backdrops, and triggers all set up, members had a brilliant opportunity to practise controlling the three key elements of studio portraiture: light, background, and expression.
The focus was on getting hands-on experience:
- Controlling the Backdrop: Using the available backdrops, members focused on isolating the subject and managing depth of field to ensure Anita was the focal point of every frame.
- Directing the Model: The session gave photographers crucial practice in communicating with and directing a model to capture a compelling and natural expression.
Portraiture is a demanding genre, and having a dedicated model like Anita allowed everyone, regardless of their experience level, to refine their technique and gain confidence working in a controlled studio environment. We are looking forward to seeing the fantastic results from the evening!
A huge thank you to Anita for her time and patience, and to all the members who helped set up and pack away the equipment.
